Starbucks Review: The Blonde Vanilla Latte

Blonde Vanilla Latte with Oatmilk

To preface this blog, I would like to begin by saying that I’ve never been the biggest fan of the taste of coffee. I’ve always been the type of person to put a ton of cream and sugar in there and call it good.

So, why is my blog all about coffee then? Well, I’m a college student and I needed to choose a topic… What better way to fulfill the assignment requirement than to drink coffee every week and rate how much how I like it?

Through this journey so far, though, I’ve actually begun to realize what the hype about Starbucks is about. Their coffee is enjoyable when it is well-balanced, and I haven’t met with a coffee I haven’t liked yet.

Their shaken espressos have won me over for the most part because there is still enough sweetness without the overbearing flavor of the coffee. I will never be the type of person to just brew coffee and drink it without cream and sugar.

Yet, I’ve hardly experienced their lattes or any of their hot drinks – If they didn’t win me over with their shaken espressos, this drink will definitely keep me going back to Starbucks.

The Blonde Vanilla Latte with Oatmilk

This morning before my morning work shift I decided to take the advantage of the blog post that was due and go to Starbucks to try something new. Not knowing where to start, I looked up “Best Starbucks drinks” and found a blog on Fresh Coffee House’s Website that had Starbucks’ blonde roast coffees at the top of their list. I didn’t read too much about what exactly it tasted like and was pleasantly surprised when I got to work and took the first sip.

One blog posted on The Day of the Human’s website boldly claimed that “This is the ultimate Starbucks Vanilla Latte. Seriously. I was never a big fan of the standard Starbucks Vanilla Latte. … The flavor of this drink is much more complex than what I’m used to from Starbucks, and it’s delicious. I’d order this one again for sure.” I agree with this claim – This is definitely the best Starbucks drink I’ve tried so far, and let me tell you why.

The Rundown

When I sat down at my office chair and finally got the chance to get the first sip of this coffee, I wasn’t expecting it to be anything special. I had tried Starbucks’ hot coffees in the past and I always thought they were mediocre. I was beyond pleasantly surprised at how good this coffee tasted and I was sad I only got the grande size.

This latte is smooth, sweet, and not nearly as strong as Starbucks’ other coffees. In fact, I wouldn’t even say that this can be compared to their other roasts since the taste is so different. If you don’t like the strong flavor of Starbucks’ rather coffee and prefer sweeter drinks without bitterness, this might be the drink for you.

Review Breakdown

BITTERNESS10 – This light roast means no taste of bitterness whatsoever.

FLAVOR: 8 – A much milder flavor than Starbucks’ usual drinks, the flavor is more subtle and smooth.

SWEETNESS7 – Definitely much sweeter than Starbucks’ other roasts, but perfect for my preference.

AFTERTASTE7 – Not too much of an aftertaste, not too bold.

BALANCE:  7 – Sweet but delicious.

OVERALL DRINK RATING: 7.8

Final Thoughts

I can’t get enough of this drink. The rating is mild because the drink is milder than a darker roast, so it has less dramatic numbers, but this is my new all-time favorite drink. I will be in the Starbucks drive-thru getting it tomorrow, and there’s a good chance I’ll show up to this class with it!

So I say get it! It’s a great change from Starbucks’ normal dark roast lattes, and it might be a nice treat for yourself if you’re not looking for bold flavors and instead some sweetness.

Come back next week for a new brew, new review!

Next week I will be trying a new Dunkin’ drink I haven’t had yet – Read it next week and see if you’re willing to step out of your comfort zone and try a new brew, too!
