Yay, another Dunkin week! But also sad, because this is officially my last Dunkin’ review of the semester, and likely ever again.
Going into this whole blog, I honestly thought that the Dunkin’ reviews would go substantially better than the Starbucks reviews, but that was not the case at all. More often than not, the Starbucks ratings outdid the Dunkin’ ones.
Next week I plan on doing a comprehensive breakdown averaging all of the ratings and determining an overall winner for the semester.
That being said, I really wanted Dunkin’ to redeem themselves once and for all with this last blog post. As per usual, I looked up ‘Best Dunkin’ drinks’ and clicked on a link that led me to this post on Spoon University’s website, which had Hot Caramel Coffee as their #1 coffee on the list. Since I’ve also tried Starbucks’ Iced Caramel Macchiato, I decided to get this Dunkin’ version iced as well. I have NO regrets!!
The Iced Caramel Macchiato
I was fully expecting to try to the Hot version of this drink, but when I went to go pick it up, I realized that they had messed up the order and made it iced instead. Talk about a blessing in disguise, though. While I won’t give away the details just yet, this coffee may have just made it into my Go-To list.
A combination of caramel swirl, sugar, and whichever milk you choose paired even further with the delicious whipped cream topped with powdered cinnamon. I mean sure, it’s probably calories on calories, but who gives a flying care. You live once and deserve to treat yourself – Drink the yummy iced coffees when you can, especially this one!!
The Rundown
While I was annoyed at first that they had messed up my order and made it iced instead of hot, my frustration was quickly remedied when I took the first sip of this drink. If you can imagine drinking iced coffee ice cream, that’s pretty much exactly what this tastes like. It’s very sweet, and less of a. practical everyday drink and more of a treat that you order every now and then. It’s dangerously good.
Not only that, but it also gives you the boost of energy that you need to complete your tasks when you feel like you’re dragging. Caffeine doesn’t usually affect me, typically because I don’t normally order drinks with a lot of caffeine because I can’t handle the strength of the flavor. But this macchiato definitely packs a punch of energy and I’m feeling it as I write this blog post. Which is very convenient, considering the amount of work I have left for the night. If you’re a college student like me nearing the end of the semester, grab one of these to finish that late-night homework or start that horribly long day.
Review Breakdown
BITTERNESS: 10 – Not even a hint of bitterness.
FLAVOR: 10 – Definitely the best tasting drink I’ve had all semester without question.
SWEETNESS: 9 – SUPER sweet, but that’s the point of the drink.
AFTERTASTE: 9 – Great flavor, almost just as great an aftertaste.
BALANCE: 9 – Very sweet, but the purpose of this drink isn’t to be perfectly balanced.
OVERALL DRINK RATING: 9.4
Final Thoughts
The final verdict: This drink is phenomenal, amazing, chef’s kiss. It deserves the golden buzzer for Macchiato’s Got Talent, straight to L.A. to compete against Starbucks’ Caramel Macchiato and WIN. It may just be the caffeine talking that’s making me so hyped up about this drink, but it seriously is the best drink that I’ve tried all semester.
As we know by now, I have a sweet tooth when it comes to my coffee, even though Starbucks has somewhat started to sway me from that trend. However, this drink reminded me why Dunks will always have a very special place in my heart. If you are looking for a sweet drink to get you through the long day or all-nighter doing homework, grab one of these. If you are feeling down and need a burst of serotonin for the day, straight to the Dunkin’ drive-thru for this healing Macchiato. Go get one and see for yourself! I promise that you will NOT be disappointed.
An End of an Era for Coffee Ratings
Next week, rather than reviewing any more coffees, I will be closing this blog by comparing the overall ratings of all of the Starbucks and Dunkin’ drinks and seeing which franchise I favored more this year with the drinks that I chose.
I’m sad to go, but happy that I chose this topic for my blog and discovered many new coffees, and expanded my palette in the process. Thank you for joining the journey of New Brews and New Reviews each week 🙂
